Cesc To Crack Down On Illegal Tv, Telephone & Internet Cables

Mysore/Mysuru: The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited has announced decisive action against the unscientifically drawn TV and internet cables dangling from electric poles across the city. These improperly installed cables pose a serious threat to commuters, who often mistake them for electric wires, and create an eyesore for tourists in Mysuru.

CESC has directed service providers to immediately remove these improperly drawn cables and to obtain proper permissions before installing cables in areas such as V.V. Mohalla, Kuvempunagar, N.R. Mohalla, Hootagalli, and Ramakrishnanagar Sub-Divisions.

The CESC Executive Engineer, S.B. Anita, highlighted the safety concerns, noting that many service providers have failed to renew their licences, leading to potential fire hazards and electrocution risks. Unauthorised installations, particularly on government holidays to avoid detection, have exacerbated the problem.

CESC charges a fee of Rs. 200 per month per electric pole in urban areas and Rs. 150 in rural areas for each cable fixed, generating substantial revenue. However, illegal cable installations result in financial losses for CESC and pose significant safety risks.

Despite issuing numerous warnings and press releases since 2018, enforcement has been weak, allowing cable operators to continue using electric poles for commercial activities without proper authorization.
