Chamarajanagara: An incident in which a blind man was attacked by a wild elephant was reported from Katthekalupodi in Hanur Taluk on Sunday December 25.
The injured has been identified as Madesh (45), a resident of Katthekalupodi Village of Huttur Gram Panchayat. It is said that Madesh, a blind man, was in his field in the afternoon when a wild elephant attacked him. As a result, his arms and legs were broken. The elephant fled inside the forest after the villagers who were working in other fields raised an alarm.
The injured Madesh has been admitted to the District Hospital in Chamarajanagara and is said to be out of danger. Although there is an ambulance at P. G. Palya Primary Health Centre, the patient has to wait for hours to reach the hospital as the authorities have not appointed a driver. The staff of the Forest Department gave the Department a vehicle to shift the injured to the hospital.
Villagers urged the Government to control the wild elephant menace and appoint permanent drivers for the ambulance.
