Chamarajanagara: Elephant calf reunited with mother

Chamarajanagara: An elephant calf missing from herd was reunited with mother by villagers on border of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at Palar on Thursday March 23.

It is said that the calf was unable to cross the Mettur Backwaters stayed in State side. The calf was found stumbling between stones. It was going near the water but afraid to cross river.

Th villagers who has seen the calf crying to join its mother went near it and managed to help cross the backwaters. The youth there handled the situation very sensitively. A young man slowly walked up to the baby elephant, caressed it lovingly and slowly brought it up from the bank.

It is said that the mother crossed the backwater and went to the other side. Only calf remained on the bank that fell on the side of our State. Finally, the Villagers took calf slowly across the backwater and put her in her mother’s lap. The Tamil Nadu Forest staff also assisted in the task.
