Chamarajanagara: Cauvery Command Area Development Authority (CADA) Chairman G. Nijaguna Raju said that farmers are the backbone of the country by providing food to the entire country from the produce they have grown.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on millets and natural farming organised by Zilla Panchayat, Agriculture Department, Bangalore Agricultural University, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and District Krishika Samaja as part of National Farmers’ Day celebrations at Valmiki Bhavan here on Friday December 23. “India is an agricultural domain country. No matter how difficult the situation arises in the country, even if any industries come to a standstill, the agricultural activity of the farmers will not stop. It would not be wrong to say that the farmers, despite their difficulties, are engaged in agriculture, feed the society and the country and stand behind the country,” he stressed.
“The Central and State Governments should respond well to the farmers and provide them with the necessary facilities. Farmers should be given a good price for their produce. A proper market should be arranged,” he said.
