Chamarajanagara: A Gram Panchayat Member staged a dharna with a begging bowl alleging that the Project Development Officer (PDO) was asking for bribe for every work. The GP Member Arulaselvam of Martahalli GP in Hanur Taluk of the District staging a dharna alleging that no development works are going on in Nall Road Village under Martahalli Gram Panchayat alleged that PDO is asking for bribe to carry out the work.

Martahalli Gram Panchayat is the largest Gram Panchayat of Hanur Taluk. The GP Member alleged that there is no action plan for any development works including roads, drinking water, electricity and sewerage, so there are problems in the ward. Although he appealed to PDO many a times, he has not responding to his appeal, he alleged and asked bribe for all works. Arulaselvam expressed his outrage with a cloth over his mouth

The GP Member holding a poster saying that reward for honesty is holding a box called alms pot and holding a cloth over his mouth. He in a poster stated that he is begging from villagers as he has to pay bribe for development work in his ward. Corruption is like diabetes. It will completely destroy us and our community. There is a situation in our country where bribery is required for doing duty. Corruption is running rampant in our panchayat, he alleged.

The GP Member urged the Government to conduct an investigation into the works done under the 15th fiscal and MNREGS during the last two years. Drinking water pipes and electricity bulbs are available at low prices, but they have given high prices and looted lakhs of rupees. Arulaselvam demanded that the concerned Senior Officials should visit the Gram Panchayat and conduct an investigation.

Martahalli GP PDO Gangadhar said that the accusation of bribe is far from truth and said we are ready to do the development works of Nall Road Ward. If they list the works, we will develop an action plan in the next few days, he added.
