Chamarajanagara: Gundlupet MLA C. S. Niranjan Kumar said on Tuesday June 28 that his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the widening of National Highway 766 was restricted to the stretch that falls outdoors the Bandipur Tiger Reserve (BTR).
The MLA requested the PM’s assistance in a letter dated June 20 to widen the NH 766 and put a divider to avoid accidents.
According to sources, he informed that Gundlupet and Nanjangud are on NH 766, a two-way road that runs from the Kerala border to Mysuru. Although there is a divider along the stretch from Mysuru to Nanjangud, there isn’t one in the stretch that runs through Gundlupet and ends at the Kerala border. The single road has a very high vehicle density, which also results in accidents and deaths. He has requested PM Modi to widen NH 766 with a road divider from Nanjangud to the Kerala border through Gundlupet. He further clarified that there is no need to install a divider and said that he has not mentioned road widening inside the forest area.
