Chamarajanaraga: The farmers of Melukamanahalli village in the Gopalaswamy Hill range of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Gundlupet Taluk are in a panic after more than 50 wild boars have suddenly died in a month. Farmers and tribals are concerned due to the daily recurrence of deaths.

Villagers said that it was seen that the pigs did not die due to poisoning or by consuming the blasting substance used by hunters. The Bandipura Conservator of forests Ramesh Kumar said that veterinarians and staff visited the village and inspected the dead pig and sent it to the laboratory for post-mortem and examination of its organs.

He said Pigs do not die from these diseases as their immunity is high. “We are waiting for the laboratory report and the actual cause of death could be known only after receiving the report,” he added.
