Gundlupet: Despite the clean drinking water plant at the foot of Gopalaswamy Hill collapsing three to four months ago, the authorities from the forest department have displayed a deplorable lack of reaction to this pressing situation.
This sacred site boasts a rich historical and religious significance, drawing in a steady stream of daily visitors, including tourists, devotees, and their families, who gather to experience the divine presence of Lord Krishna. To accommodate this influx, the forest department has set up a parking facility at the hill’s foundation, imposing fees ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 30 per vehicle. Nevertheless, the persisting challenge revolves around the availability of potable water. Despite the installation of a water unit within the forest department’s designated parking area, it regrettably remains inoperable. The functional clean drinking water unit has languished in disrepair for numerous months, yet the authorities responsible for rectifying the situation have displayed a lack of initiative.
Despite the substantial revenue accrued from the daily parking fees, there appears to be a conspicuous absence of government intervention aimed at restoring the functionality of the clean drinking water facility. This oversight has triggered a wave of public discontent and has ignited concerns regarding whether department officials are inadvertently endorsing the continued use of plastic. It is a widely held belief that the presence of a functional clean drinking water unit within the car parking area of the hill could notably reduce the reliance on plastic water bottles by visiting tourists. Unfortunately, the forest department officials have, to this date, neglected their duty to address the necessary repairs, even after the passage of several months.
