No respite for farmers despite letter from PMO

Chamarajangar: Farmers in Malapur village of Gundlupet taluk are outraged against the district administration for ignoring the prime minister’s letter to provide compensation to them against crop losses under central government’s Fasal Bhima Yojana scheme.

Several farmers in Malapur village had insured their crops against natural calamities by paying premium to Universal Sompo general insurance company.

However, when faced with a crop loss the affected farmers’ accounts were credited only to the extent of the paid premium instead of being given proper relief by the insurance company, alleged the distraught farmers.

In June this year, the affected farmers led by Channamallappa had sent a petition to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in order to draw his attention towards their plight and sought suitable action.

Responding to their letter, the PMO had written to the state chief sectary directing him to take appropriate action and upload the ATR (Action Taken Report) on the portal itself.

The state chief secretary forwarded the letter to the district administration, which in turn sent it to the joint director in the agricultural department dealing with the matter but no action was initiated at ground-level.

“No action has been taken despite PM’s intervention over four months back on the issue”, said the farmers.

The insurance company is dilly-dallying on payment of relief and the district administration has turned a blind eye making life difficult for all affected farmers, said Taluk Raitha Sangha President Kundkere Sampath reacting on the issue.
