Mysuru: The Consumer Forum has slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the Mysuru Railway Division for depriving air-conditioner facility to a passenger who had booked a ticket in the A/C compartment.
Social activist Dr Shekhar, a resident of Mathura in Mysuru, had booked a seat in the A/C compartment while travelling from Bengaluru to Mysuru in March this year. However, there was no A/C facility in the compartment.

When he brought the issue to the notice of the mechanic, he is said to have replied that the entire A/C unit was not functional. Shekhar was directed to contact the senior officials and get his money refunded. However, his approach did not evoke the desired response.

Upset with this, Shekhar approached the Consumer Forum and demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 for his travel woes and also for upsetting him mentally. After probe, the Forum directed the Mysuru DRM to pay Shekhar Rs 3,000 for the inconvenience caused and another Rs 2,000 towards travel charges.

The Forum also cautioned that the DRM would face imprisonment if the money is not refunded within 60 days.

This case is a witness that there is still room for truth for commoners in this corrupt world.
