Mysuru: The century-old Devaraja Market will be fully demolished and a new market constructed in its place with a cellar for parking vehicles, announced Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday.
The CM was speaking after inaugurating the new buildings of the Government Nature Cure and Yoga Medical College and Hospital and the Government Ayurveda Hi-tech Panchakarma Hospital on K.R.S. Road. He said that the decision to raze the building was taken on the basis of a task force report. He also said that the fate of another century-old heritage structure, Lansdowne Building, will be decided after getting the technical committee’s report.
Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building were under renovation when a portion of the market collapsed on August 28. Soon after, the State government constituted a task force to assess the structural viability of the market building.
