A diesel tanker overturned at Baithadka bend near Adkaru in Jalsoor village along the Mysuru-Mani highway on Wednesday, reportedly due to driver loss of control. The tanker was transporting diesel from Mangaluru to the KSRTC depot in Sullia when the accident occurred, leading to a significant fuel leak after one of the caps opened on impact. Two punctured holes in the tanker caused extensive diesel spillage onto the road.
Local police, fire service personnel, and residents quickly responded to the scene to manage the situation. The substantial amount of diesel spilled created hazardous conditions for motorists, prompting authorities to redirect traffic towards Puttur via an alternative route through Paicharu-Sonangeri-Kukkandoor-Jalsoor to alleviate congestion.
After approximately an hour, two cranes were employed to lift the tanker and move it off the roadway. The driver suffered a hand injury and was treated at Sullia Hospital. Additionally, a motorcyclist named Ibrahim from Sullia skidded and sustained injuries at the accident site, and he also received medical assistance.
