Mysuru: An elderly man who is said to have come to the city to watch a movie was pushed into a destitute home and abandoned there for an entire year.

Jayaram (70) was working in a Mysugars factory in Mandya. Since he is a fan of the Kannada actor Ambareesh, he came to the city to watch one of his films ‘Bul Bul’ last year.

After watching the movie he was heading towards a temple, it has been reported. During one of the drives carried out by government officials to clear beggars from Shantala theatre area, they accidentally took the elderly man away assuming that he was a beggar. Even though he pleaded with them and tried explaining that he is a retired worker from a factory, he was taken to a destitute home in Gayathripuram.

He also revealed that at the home, he was harassed and locked inside for a year.

Now, after a year of waiting, he has finally been released. He told media sources that he had requested the officials to contact his family several times in the past year but the officials didn’t pay any heed to his pleas.

Now the man is out of the destitute home and has managed to contact his family. The family members, since he hadn’t returned home for a year thought he was dead and hence up until now no one has come to take him home, it is said.
