Mysuru: In an early morning drive, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials and workers, with adequate police protection, demolished the compound wall of the Church of South India (CSI) Yesu Karunalaya Church at Karunapura in  Mysuru-Bengaluru highway.

The compound wall was cleared by the MCC officials led by Zone 7 Assistant Commissioner on the orders of the court. The drive was launched at 5.00 am on Tuesday December 7.

Meanwhile, Selvin Thomas, a parish member, Rev. Elish Kumar and other committee members of the CSI Yesukarunalaya Church alleged that the new Karnataka High Court Judge who was unaware of the 150-year-old history of the church, had passed orders to demolish the compound wall.

“The demolition drive was undertaken by MCC without any prior notice, and there was no order from the previous high court judge to demolish the compound wall,” they alleged. Further, the church committee members said that they had all the valid documents to prove that the land was not encroached.
