In the Mysuru Division of South Western Railway (SWR), significant improvements have been implemented to enhance facilities for running staff, crucial to the smooth operation of train services.
Running Rooms and Amenities: The running rooms across various locations in the division have been upgraded to provide a comfortable and homely environment for train crew, including drivers and guards. These rooms now feature air-conditioned or air-cooled sleeping cubicles, subsidised quality meals, and packed meals for unconventional hours. Each room connects to a crew lobby equipped with essential operational information. Amenities include spacious rooms with attached toilets, meditation and reading rooms, dining halls, kitchens, RO purified drinking water, mechanised linen washing, solar hot water systems, centralised air cooling, mosquito curtains, and laundry services. Special vegetarian meal menus are offered on different days.
Capacity and Facilities: The division operates running rooms with varying capacities: Mysuru (44 beds), Hassan (35 beds), Arsikere (56 beds), and others, ensuring ample accommodation. Separate air-conditioned rooms with attached toilets are provided for female crew members, prioritising privacy and comfort.
Infrastructure and Future Plans: The Arsikere running room, established in 2020, exemplifies modern amenities with fully air-conditioned facilities, state-of-the-art kitchen, yoga/meditation room, and recreation areas. Future plans include expanding existing facilities and constructing new running rooms at Sakleshpur, Chikkamagaluru, and Talguppa, each with 20 beds.
Commitment to Well-being: The division ensures staff well-being by adhering to the Hours of Employment (HOER) Act Rules to prevent overwork and fatigue. Contracts for 24×7 security, facility maintenance, garden upkeep, and catering services further underscore their commitment to staff safety and efficiency.
