Mysuru: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his nephew in a bid to save his sweeper’s job in a local panchayat. The incident took place in Hosungudi village here and the victim is Vishnu (18).

It is said that Raju’s brother and Vishnu’s father- Nagaraju, who was Group D worker at Hosungudi Gram Panchayat had died ten-years-ago. Since Vishnu was a minor then, the job was given to his paternal uncle Raju on compassion grounds.

Now that Vishnu had turned 18, Raju’s mother had urged the Panchayat to transfer the job from her son Raju to her grandson Vishnu, as the latter rightfully deserved the job.

The move of his mother had irked Raju, who feared that his job would be lost. Seizing an opportunity, Raju made Vishnu consume liquor and then took an inebriated Vishnu to an isolated place an strangled him to death.

The police have taken Raju in to custody. Investigations are underway.
