Mysuru: Four hotels in Mysuru have been found violating food safety and hygiene norms during surprise inspections conducted as part of a statewide crackdown on food establishments.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) conducted inspections at several hotels, restaurants and other food establishments in the city. The raids were carried out under the direction of the FSSAI head office in Bengaluru.
Surprise inspections uncover violations
The inspection team, led by Dr S.L. Ravindra, Designated Officer, FSSAI, Mysuru City, visited several establishments, including Grand Mercure, Radisson Blu Plaza, Rio Meridian, Khan Durbar and Q Star.
Officials found violations of prescribed food safety standards at some of the establishments and served notices to those found at fault.
Reused oil raises concerns
At Rio Meridian, officials reportedly found cooking oil being reused several times. According to Dr Ravindra, the repeated use had caused the oil to turn black, raising concerns over food quality and hygiene.
The inspection also found that a freezer used to store meat was not functioning properly. Following the inspection, officials seized 9 kg of chicken from the hotel.
Crackdown continues across the State
The inspections are part of an ongoing statewide drive to check compliance with food safety and hygiene standards at hotels, restaurants, resorts and other food establishments.
Officials are continuing to monitor establishments to ensure that food is prepared, stored and handled in accordance with prescribed safety requirements.
The inspections also underline the importance of maintaining proper kitchen hygiene, safe food storage facilities and responsible handling of cooking ingredients, particularly in establishments serving large numbers of customers
