Bengaluru: The state government is committed to providing quality health service to all in the state and a decision has been taken to implement the Universal Health Scheme in the state at the recently concluded Belagavi assembly session, said Karnataka’s Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah.

Speaking at a renovated temple inaugural at Kaniyanahundi in Hampapura Hobli limits, the CM said the Below Poverty Line (BPL) people need not make any payments to avail benefits under the scheme, while others in rural areas and urban area can avail medical services in private hospitals with a yearly payment of Rs 300 and Rs 700 respectively.

The CM also listed his government’s achievements in alleviating poverty in the state based on a series of pro-poor schemes. “The government has waived off farmers’ loans up to Rs 50,000 to give a major relief to the farmers and is inclined to open Morarji schools in each taluk, including Hampapura Hobli,” he said.

A letter has been sent to the state finance department to get the approval to refill 38 water tanks and lakes including the one at Hampapura, through the Cauvery Neeravary Nigama. On receipt of the approval, tenders will be called to set the ball rolling in various developmental works, the CM assured.

Speaking on the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practice and Black Magic Bill, 2017 (or the Anti-Superstition Bill as it is popularly known), the Chief Minister said, “It is better to believe than not believe,” but advised all to shy away from superstitious beliefs by believing in an omnipresent God and love.

Chamrajanagar MP Dhruva Narayan, MLA Vasu, Former legislator Sathyanarayana, State Bhovi Community Development Corporation Chairman Seetharam, ZP member Krishna and other dignitaries were present.
