Govt employees throng doctors for medical certificates to skip election duty!

Mysuru: Avoiding  election duty is not easy for a government employees,  however, those with valid medical reason are exempted.

In a shocking development government employees are seen thronging city doctors seeking medical certificates advising them rest.

Several doctors in the city admit to having received unusual requests by government servants, asking for medical certificates which would exempt them from doing election duty. Nearly 392 government servants, majority of them teachers had applied requesting the district election authorities to exempt them from election duty. Of the 392 applications which the district election authorities received, 258 have been accepted and 134 rejected by the committee.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Dr R Venkatesh , District Health Officer said “Election duty is mandatory for all and in case if they can’t attend they should give valid reason with proper medical certificates, which will be examined by the committee formed exclusively to oversee their request under his chairmanship”.

He said that employees who are pregnant, new mother’s having to breastfeed children below six months, employees who are under dialysis, those having cardiac problem and other serious illness have been exempted from doing election duty. He said that for the most serious and genuine cases he has accepted the request.
An orthopedic surgeon said that many employees with various issues including blood pressure, diabetes, heart problem and back pain have requested him for medical certificates advising them rest.
