GSSSIETW, Mysuru hosts Int’l Webinar on “Radar Sensing in Assisted Living”

Mysuru: IETE student forum in Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysuru has organized International Webinar titled “Radar Sensing in Assisted Living” on 1st June 2021 for 6th semester ECE/TCE students and faculty members. The resource person was Dr Julien Le Kernec, Senior Lecturer, University of Glasgow, School of Engineering, Glasgow, United Kingdom (UK).

RADAR- Radio Detection and Ranging, is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance (range), angle, or velocity of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain.
The talk began with the importance of Radar in assisted living. Assisted living is an automatic system for daily activities like running, sleeping, walking etc., that helps us to survive, that also includes vitals like heart rate, breathing, healthcare and many more. Collecting this information and using communication technologies in living and working environments to provide care with independence for the elderly population. In such assisted living, Radar technology plays important role in monitoring elderly persons accurately.

The resource person also emphasized the benefits of Radar in assisted living, various algorithms for monitoring. To achieve such accurate monitoring, embedded processors are also important and he gave a brief overview of FPGA, ASIC, GPU. The talk continued with current developments in assisted living using RADAR, various challenges and possible solutions in the same area.

The webinar was moderated by Dr Shivakumar M, Principal GSSSIETW. Dr Rajendra R. Patil Professor & Head, Dept. of ECE, Dr Parameshachari B D, Professor & Head, Dept. of TCE, Dr Padmashree S, Professor, Dept. of ECE, staff members of ECE/TCE department, students of 6th semester ECE/TCE department and faculty members of other institutions were present in the webinar.

Finally, the session was brought to an end with a questionnaire, participants actively involved and got clarifications to their queries and this was followed by a vote of thanks.
