Mysuru: It is not uncommon to hear about villagers fleeing their homes due to the constant fear of being attacked by wild animals. But Gohalli Village has been witnessing an exodus finding a new place to live in after being tortured by house flies.
It has been constantly described by the villagers as the haunting of the house flies, which has now caused their peaceful living to be severely affected.
Gohalli is a village around 10 km away from Mysore town. The village has about 60 houses and the population is 400. In this tiny village, residents are solely depended on agriculture. The number of flies has increased due to a poultry farm in the village. The dead hens and foul smell is the main reason and it is a breeding ground for these flies. The houses nearby are affected by this nuisance.
The villagers are unable to have dinner as these flies are all over the drinking water sources and food and they are also forced to spend sleepless nights due to this nuisance.
Many children have fallen sick due to flies in the village. Educated people who are frustrated over the menace have decided to shift to rented houses in Mysore town. Whereas, farmers have decided to stay in their farms and have been spending most of the time in their fields to escape from the flies.
While speaking to News Karnataka, about the measures taken to curb this issue, the villagers said that they have complained to District Panchayat to take action around six months back. Beerahundi Gram panchayath officials who are looking after this village are least bothered, they added.
Now, the youth in this village have decided to complain to the district health officer and DC, it was informed. Few villagers have been waiting for CM Siddaramaiah’s visit to speak to officials in this regard and free them from the housefly menace.
