Mysore: In a gesture of continued support for animal welfare, JSS Mahavidyapeeth has contributed Rs. 1 lakh to the Sri Chamarajendra Zoo in Mysore. This donation, made to celebrate the 109th birth anniversary of Dr. Shivaratri Rajendra Swamiji on August 25, is intended to aid in the maintenance and provision of food for the zoo’s animals and birds.
The ceremonial cheque handover took place in the presence of several dignitaries. Shrimath, the executive director of the zoo, presented the cheque to Mahesh Kumar, the secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeeth. This annual tradition has been upheld for the past 15 years, marking Rajendra Shrigala Jayanti with a significant contribution towards the zoo’s operational costs.
During the event, Executive Director D. Mahesh Kumar praised JSS Mahavidyapeeth for their unwavering commitment to the zoo. He highlighted that their consistent support over the years has been invaluable in ensuring that the zoo’s animals receive the necessary care and nourishment. Kumar also expressed hope that other organisations would emulate JSS Mahavidyapeeth’s example, thus furthering the cause of animal welfare.
“This generous donation reflects the profound dedication of JSS Mahavidyapeeth to the well-being of our zoo’s inhabitants,” Kumar said. “It is not just a financial contribution but a testament to their genuine concern for animal welfare. We hope that this will inspire other entities to contribute towards the upkeep and enrichment of our zoo.”
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including the Jayanti Mahotsav Committee convener Prof. R. Mugeshappa, Dr. Niranjanamurthy, and H.V. from Gopal Gowda Hospital. Each of them acknowledged the significance of such contributions and reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts in supporting public institutions like the zoo.
Dr. Niranjanamurthy spoke about the broader impact of such donations, noting that they not only help in maintaining the zoo but also serve to raise awareness about the importance of conserving wildlife. “This kind of support is crucial for the zoo’s continued success and for ensuring that we can provide a high quality of life for the animals under our care,” he said.
JSS Mahavidyapeeth’s support has become a cherished tradition, reflecting their commitment to social responsibility and community service. By celebrating Rajendra Shrigala Jayanti with this annual donation, they honour the legacy of Dr. Shivaratri Rajendra Swamiji while making a tangible difference in the lives of the zoo’s animals.
The donation not only helps in the day-to-day feeding of the animals but also supports the zoo in its broader mission of education and conservation. The Sri Chamarajendra Zoo, a popular attraction in Mysore, plays a vital role in wildlife preservation and public education about animal species and their habitats.
As the zoo continues to thrive with the support of dedicated patrons like JSS Mahavidyapeeth, there is optimism about future collaborations and contributions. The ongoing support and involvement of local organisations and individuals are crucial for sustaining the high standards of care that the zoo aims to provide.
The zoo administration hopes that the exemplary support from JSS Mahavidyapeeth will encourage more community engagement and partnership in animal welfare initiatives.
