Kodagu: “The City Corporation should take strict action against the miscreants who attacked Madikeri City Municipal Council (MCC) member Appanna in broad daylight on the road and deport him from the District and cancel the hotel permission letter issued by the miscreants immediately,” said Rajeev Bopaiah, Convener of Jabbumi.

Addressing a press conference at Ponnampet, he asked what would happen to the common man if people’s representatives were attacked in the Kodagu, which is a District of peace and harmony. He urged the police to take strict action against such miscreants in the coming days as they may do in Kashmir, West Bengal and Kerala, where they may carry out acts of vandalism against the police and the army.

“If strict action is taken against the culprits, we will discuss with Kodava Samaja, Chamber of Commerce, Hotel Owner’s associations and seek their opinion and decide what action should be taken against him. If the police officers support the miscreants, they will have to think about what action should be taken against them,” he warned.

He further said that if such miscreants are taken lightly, several such miscreants will emerge in the coming days.

“Police should have taken serious note of the attempt to murder and assault on a woman in Kothur village on two cultivators in Manchally and Nalkeri villages earlier. The accused in the case of breaking into a house in Ponnampet and snatching a gun are yet to be traced. If the police took the cases seriously, such cases would not have happened,” he said.

“We appreciate that the police department has now initiated action against the supply of drugs in the District and requested for the formation of a special cell to control it more strictly,” he added. He also warned that if strict sections are not imposed under the law in Madikeri case, action will be taken with the support of all organisations.

Jabboomi Secretary Anneera Harish Madappa, members of Mallamada Prabhu Poonacha, Machchamada Aneesh Madappa and others were present.
