Madikeri: In its continued drive to trap corrupt officials, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) police squad succeeded in nabbing a corrupt Public Works Department (PWD) executive engineer (EE) from his official residence in Madikeri on December 8. The EE was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 80000 from a contractor.
EE Jagannath Jadhav was demanding Rs 4 Lakh from a Class -1 contractor Yatish for signing the agreement after the latter bagged the tender to execute works valued over Rs 23 Lakh towards repair of six government quarters.
Fed up with EE’s persistent demand, Yatish lodged a complaint with the ACB office in Mysore. Based on the directions from Superintendent of Police Kavitha, a team led by DySP Gajendra Prasad hatched a plot to nab the corrupt engineer. Accordingly, they succeeded in trapping Jagannath Jadhav at his official residence while accepting the bribe from the contractor in the morning.
DySP Gajendra Prasad confirmed that the arrested official would be produced in the court at Mysuru.
