Kushalanagar: The agitation demanding separate Cauvery taluk in Kodagu with Kushalnagar as taluk headquarters entered the seventh day and the advocates, retired government employees joined the agitation on October 21.

The people led by V P Shashidar, who is spearheading the agitation have been demanding the creation of Cauvery taluk by carving out the same from existing Somwarpet taluk. People feel this would a avoid lot of hardships and prevent unnecessary travel to get things done at government offices in Somwarpet. They contend that the Kushalnagar town equipped with all the basic infrastructure and amenities is ideal to be named as the new taluk headquarters as it is centrally located.

Retired government employees and advocates attached to their respective local associations joined the agitation and exhibited enormous enthusiasm as it entered the seventh day. With the elected representatives turning a blind eye to the agitation, the protesters have decided to hold a massive rally on October 30 to exert pressure on the government to create the new taluk.

The government dropped naming Cauvery taluk when it listed new taluks in the state recently and this enraged people in the area as they have been demanding for a separate taluk for quite sometime.

The agitators sat in protest inside Gundurao Sathyagraha podium located in the car stand of the town.
