Madikeri: Kushalnagar observed peaceful bandh on Monday in response to a call given by the Cauvery Taluk Rachana Horata Samithi. All the business establishments and shops have been closed since 6 am. The samithi exempted hotels, restaurants, government offices and banks from participating in the bandh as it would affect tourists and other people.
More than 4000 people took out a procession from Tavarekere to the bus stand and the samithi leaders addressed the gathering. The shop keepers voluntarily supported the bandh by closing their shops. All the private and KSRTC buses, taxis, auto rickshaws, private vehicles, and two wheelers plied as usual.
The bandh will end today at 2 pm. Members of various pro people organisations and students of various schools and colleges took part in the procession.
The samithi has been holding a rally which entered its 16th day on Monday, pressing for key demand of forming Cauvery Taluk.
