Madikeri: The BJP leaders have come together to assert on the government to drop Tipu Jayanthi celebrations.

During a protest held outside the DC’s office on Tuesday, Madikeri MLA M P Appachuranjan, Virajpet MLA K G Bopaiah and others have insisted that the government must shed its adamant attitude and stop Tipu Jayanthi celebration and also demanded re-probe into death of Kuttappa, who died during the commotion that broke out around Tipu Jayanthi last year.

Ranjan said that the Congress’ policy of appeasing the minority will doom it in near future. “History speaks eloquently of the advents of Tipu Sulthan in Kodagu. These episodes show us how he plundered and ransacked Hindu temples. He massacred the Kodavas and also forcefully converted several others,” said Ranjan.

Meanwhile Bopaiah threw an open challenge to the CM to visit Kodagu if he has the courage to face the Kodavas. “If this government at the state has any faith on democracy then it must respect the feelings of the majority and withdraw the celebration. If this celebration has to happen amidst prohibitory orders in place, then it is an indication that such celebration must not be held,” he said adding that the government which did not release the Dasara utsav money for Madikeri and Gonikoppa has conveniently set aside Rs 12 cr for Tipu Jayanthi.

DC Vincent Richard D’Souza met the protesters and accepted a memorandum from them. He also said that National Investigation Agency must probe the death of Kuttappa as the agency has also said that the death of Kuttappa seems to be a conspiracy.

Don’t include my name in invite

MP Prathap Simha has said that since he is against the Tipu Jayanthi celebration, his name must be excluded from the list of dignitaries in the invitation for the event.
