drownMadikeri: In an unfortunate incident, a 28-year-old civic worker, hailing from Mysuru jumped into Cauvery river in Madikeri on Saturday, June 9 and has been untraceable since then.

The person identified as Ramesh, a resident of Jyothinagar, Mysuru was on a trip to Madikeri with his friend Kiran. The duo was reportedly consuming alcohol near Cauvery river in Kushalnagara when Ramesh suddenly jumped into the river.

Kiran too jumped into the river to save Ramesh from drowning but his efforts remained futile. He then immediately brought the incident to the notice of Kushalnagar police.

Police along with Fire Service officers, rafting teams and swimmers began a search for Ramesh in the water. As there were heavy currents, search operations are facing difficulties and it is feared Ramesh may have been dead.

Police continued the search operations on Sunday too.
