Gonikoppal: Two young students who wanted to pose for a picture with the breathtaking waterfall on the background landed in watery grave at Chelavara here.
B K Somanna (18) of Bellur village and K C Somanna (19) of Balyamundur are the deceased. Both were studying in the final year at Sai Shanker degree college, Ponnampet.
On Thursday, a total of seven students of the college had left for a tour. However, while five from the group headed to Kushalnagar, two diverted and went to Chelavara with the plan that all seven would meet at Ponnampet at 3 pm. When the five reached Ponnampet on time and saw that the two had not turned up, they tried contacting the duo over mobile phones. When their mobiles too were not reachable, the five students contacted the family of the duo. On learning that they had neither turned up at their respective homes, the remaining friends reached Chelavara and found the bike of the duo. They alerted the locals and got divers. After extensive search operation, the bodies were traced only for Friday.
A case has been registered at the Napoklu police station.
