Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said that a meeting comprising of Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra will be held in Mumbai on October 21 to discuss Mahadayi water dispute.
Speaking to media persons at Mandakalli airport, CM who is in the city to lay foundation stone for various developmental activities in Varuna constituency and T Narsipura said, “Mekedatu reservoir will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5,700 crore. Water from the reservoir will be supplied to Bengaluru and Ramanagar and electricity will also be produced using reservior, which will ease the shortage of electricity in the state.”
He also mentioned that the Central Water Commission will visit KRS dam and inspect the water level in the reservoir on Friday. “Already 51 hectares of the agricultural lands have dried up. Details about the dried lands will be briefed to the central committee. Last year, 126 areas were drought-hit. The details on the drought will also be provided to the central government. The state government will seek financial support by the central government,” he said. As the farmers are facing severe drought this year, Chief Minister requested the banks not to force the farmers to repay the money immediately. Surprisingly, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was also welcomed by his close aide Marigowda.
Rs 1.92 crore for Varuna Constituency
“Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 1.92 crore for various developmental works. For construction of roads, Rs 1 crore has sbeen sanctioned while Rs 20 lakh will be spent for the community development. A maternity hospital and a junior college will be constructed. You have been blessing me since 1977. My son Rakesh was looking after the constituency as I was busy. After his demise, my elder son Dr Yathindra is looking after the works,” added Siddaramaiah.
