Mandya: Heavy rains in City, surroundings disrupt normal life

Mandya: Following the heavy rainfall throughout the day, causing the breach in lakes, the District is hugely affected with most of the agricultural fields and roads under water. The roads in Mandya, Mandya-KM Doddi-Malavalli routes are largely affected, with traffic disrupted during the day. Yet again Mysuru – Bengaluru Expressway is affected by the stretch of the highway partially submerged in water.

The downpour began on the morning of Friday October 14 and intensified further in the late night hours. The district received 203 mm of rainfall, according to an estimate. It is for the second time that Boodanur lake has breached in a short span of two months, damaging the standing paddy and sugarcane crops in the vicinity.

Earlier, Kere Tonnuru lake in Pandavapura Taluk was also breached leading to disruption in several ways in the surrounding areas.

Bengaluru Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory to those commuters travelling from Bengaluru to Mysuru. Due to heavy rain, both the highways connecting Mysuru and Bengaluru were affected due to waterlogging. Mysuru Bengaluru Highway near Mandya and Malavalli-Mysuru Highway were also affected.

Deputy Commissioner S. Ashwathi on Friday October 14 inspected Kere Thonnur lake which has reached its brim and the surrounding areas. Following heavy rainfall in Pandavapura Taluk, the lake is flowing at full capacity.

The DC inspected Primary Health Centre which was submerged during rain. Pandavapura Tahasildar was also present.
