Mandya: A complaint has been registered against Senior Litterateur Professor Bhagavan in Srirangapattana Town Police Station on Sunday January 22. Recently in a programme held in KR Pete Bhagavan had made a controversial statement about Lord Sri Rama.

While addressing the gathering he said that Sri Ramachandra was drinking alcohol and had left Sita in the forest. It is said that Sri Rama was portrayed as the murderer of Shambhuka. The statement triggered outrage among thousands of Hindus across the State. The VHP and Bajrang Dal workers filed a compliant against Bhagavan and urged immediate action against him for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus.

Recently, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Bhagavan by the JMFC Court in connection with the case of hurting religious sentiments. It was said that Bhagavan had written a book titled why Ramamandira should not be constructed. In the book he made deregatory remarks on Hinduism.

Pro-Hindutva organisations were demanding that severe action be taken against Bhagavan, who has spoken obscenely about Lord Sri Rama. Leaders of progressive movements have also objected to Bhagvan’s statement and are openly criticising the attitude of ‘talking carelessly about the majority’s efforts’. Vishwa Hindu Parishad workers have officially filed a complaint in Srirangapattana Police Station of Mandya District in this regard. Bhagavan has spoken disparagingly about Sri Ramachandra and Sita Mata, whom the whole country sees with devotion, it stated. The complaint demanded that action should be taken against him who has made similar statements many times.
