Mandya: The Halaguru Police has arrested a group of thieves who were stealing autorickshaws from poor who availed of loans and bought vehicles.
The accused have been identified as Arun, G. R. Girish and P. Sachin, all residents of Malavalli Town. Police said that the thieves stealing autorickshaws in Kanakapura, Satanur, Mysuru, Piriyapattana and Bylakuppe Towns were arrested.
Police has seized seven autorickshaws and two bikes worth Rs. 15 lakh stolen in last three months. Mandya District Superintendent of Police Yatish ordered more night patrolling in the wake of reports of serial theft of autos and scooters in Malavalli and Halaguru. The three were caught while attempting to steal an auto when the gang was involved in several cases in Mandya as well as other nearby districts.
Police has registered a case and all the accused have been sent to four-day judicial custody.
