Mandya: Sidda, the 50-year-old badly wounded wild elephant, lying near Manchanabele dam, showed signs of improvement on Thursday.
The Forest Department has erected a pandal to shield the elephant from the scorching sun. Drips had been administered to Sidda at least 30 times since Wednesday. It is said that Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology B. Ramanath Rai and former MP Ramya called Deputy Conservator of Forest D. Manjunath and issued strict instructions to take measures for the tusker’s recovery.
An X-ray of his fractured right front leg had failed to provide an accurate picture as it was taken during daylight. Manjunath said he did not have any idea on whether Sidda would regain its ability to walk.
Officials said that the condition of the wild elephant was still critical, but was showing signs of slight improvement on Thursday. The tusker is being provided energy-rich supplements. Sidda has been lying at the dam since Sunday.
