Mysuru: Lakhs of tourists throng Mysuru to witness the lavish Dasara festival, which means there will be heaps of waste littered on the streets marring the beauty of the cultural city. With the aim of keeping the city clean, the Mysuru City Corporation has decided to chip in additional civic workers along with the 2300 regular paurakarmikas who toil to keep the majestic city beautiful. This apart, the MCC may also get the much-needed night sweeping machine under the CSR Fund.
During Dasara festival, which starts from October 10, the MCC will put additional manpower on the job. It is in the process of hiring an additional 240 staffs to take up cleaning work round the clock. These staffs will be posted at crowded venues including venues where food mela, Yuva Dasara, Raitha Dasara and Dasara exhibition will be held.
Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, Dr Nagaraj, Health officer, Mysuru City Corporation said that apart from cleaning the city, attempts will be made to spread awareness on cleanliness among the public. Information Education and Communication Vehicle will be fitted with an LCD screen on both the sides so as to create awareness among the public about maintaining cleanliness. Three-minute documentaries will be played on the screen on various topics including solid waste management, waste segregation and a ban on plastic in the city. The vehicle will travel at prominent tourist spots.
Nigh Sweeping machine
Already, the Corporation has a one-night sweeping machine, which was bought ten years ago and now, under the RBI’s CSR fun, another night sweeping machine will be procured. The machine has the ability to move 12km per hour, which means it can cover an area of 60 to 70 km in six to eight hours, which again is equal to the work done by 20 workers in stipulated time.
