Addressing mediapersons, Mayor B L Bhyrappa said, “The proposal for installing LED bulbs for streetlights has been submitted to the government. Already the government has given permission to Tumakuru to go ahead with LED bulbs for streetlights and if everything goes accordingly along with the corporation including Hubli-Dharwad, we may also get the permission from the government to install LED bulbs for streetlights”.

Every year, including street light and pumping station, the corporation pays Rs 75 crore for electricity expenses. If the corporation starts using LED bulbs for street lights, the cost will come down by at least 50 per cent.
