Mysuru: Scores of students participated in a 5K Marathon organised in Mysuru on Saturday to raise awareness among young people about heart health, neurological well-being, physical fitness and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The event focused on encouraging students and youngsters to adopt preventive health practices and remain physically active amid growing concerns over stress, sedentary habits and lifestyle-related health problems.
Focus on prevention and stress management
Dr Shushrutha Gowda, neurologist and founder of Neurozone, highlighted the increasing concerns surrounding stress, neurological problems and heart-related conditions among young people, particularly in the post-COVID era.
He stressed the importance of prevention and urged youngsters to maintain a healthy balance between their academic or professional responsibilities and personal lives.
“Prevention is always better than cure,” he said, emphasising the role of a nutritious diet, regular exercise and effective stress management in preventing lifestyle-related diseases.
Dr Gowda encouraged young people to make physical activity and healthy habits a regular part of their daily routines rather than treating fitness as an occasional activity.
MLA urges youth to stay active
Hunsur MLA G D Harish Gowda also called upon youngsters to actively participate in health and fitness activities.
He cautioned students against excessive dependence on electronic gadgets and increasingly sedentary lifestyles, which can reduce physical activity and affect overall well-being.
The MLA encouraged youngsters to explore activities such as running, swimming, cycling, yoga and meditation. According to him, regular participation in such activities can contribute significantly to both physical and mental health.
Marathon spreads health awareness
The 5K Marathon provided students with an opportunity to combine physical activity with a broader message on preventive healthcare.
The organisers sought to use the event to encourage the younger generation to become more conscious of their physical and mental well-being and make healthier choices in their everyday lives.
The participation of students also highlighted the importance of introducing healthy habits at an early age. Regular exercise, balanced nutrition and effective management of stress can help youngsters develop healthier lifestyles and potentially reduce the risk of lifestyle-related health concerns in the future.
