Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway to Implement Intelligent Traffic Management

Mysuru Bengaluru Highway To Implement Intelligent Traffic Management

Mysore/Mysuru: The 119-km Access-Controlled Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway 275, along with Mysuru district and city, will become a fully functional Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) corridor starting July 1.

This development will initiate the issuance of penalty notices (challans) for traffic violations from the Traffic Management Centre in Mysuru. Originally introduced in Bengaluru in December 2022, ITMS includes 250 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and 80 red light violation detection (RLVD) cameras at 50 junctions.

The ITMS has now been replicated in Mysuru on major roads within the city and district limits at a cost of Rs. 8.5 crore, with Rs. 4 crore allocated for Mysuru city and Rs. 4.5 crore for Mysuru district.

According to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Traffic and Road Safety, Alok Kumar, the cameras will cover areas such as Hunsur, H.D. Kote, Nanjangud, and T. Narasipur. A Traffic Management Centre has been established in Mysuru, and real-time SMS notifications will be sent to traffic violators starting July 1.

Additionally, plans are underway to install more cameras on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway and to place Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) at key locations to display real-time traffic conditions. The State Road Transport Authority has approved the proposal for VMS boards, with tenders expected to be floated in July.

Another proposal aims to integrate challan generation with FASTag at toll gates on National Highways, allowing traffic fines to be deducted directly from FASTag wallets as vehicles pass through.

In addition to cameras, the Police are procuring signboards, blinkers, 800 alcometers for drunk driving checks, and 155 laser speed guns for use across the State, excluding Bengaluru.

Starting July 1, 500 cameras will be active and monitored from the Traffic Management Centre, enabling effective enforcement of traffic rules.
