Mysuru: Residents of Mysuru can now get their birth and death certificates delivered to their doorsteps, as the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is introducing a postal delivery facility from November 1. The initiative, launched in partnership with the Mysuru Postal Division of the Department of Posts, aims to save applicants the inconvenience of making repeated visits to Corporation offices to collect their documents.

The agreement between the MCC and the Postal Department was signed on October 29. The new facility will be available at the MCC Main Office and all nine Zonal Offices, allowing applicants to opt for home delivery while submitting their applications.

Under the arrangement, certificates will be sent through India Post’s Speed Post service to the address provided by the applicant. The facility will also allow documents to be delivered to addresses anywhere in India.

How to apply for doorstep delivery

Applicants seeking home delivery must submit a consent letter along with their postal address while applying for a birth or death certificate. A request form for doorstep delivery must be submitted along with the certificate application at any MCC office counter.

Once the certificate is ready, the Corporation will hand it over to the Postal Department for dispatch. Applicants will only need to visit the Corporation office once to submit the application instead of returning later to collect the document.

The certificate will be delivered through Speed Post, with the delivery charge collected from the recipient at the time of delivery under the Cash on Delivery (COD) system.

Certificate fee and postal charges

The MCC has fixed a certificate fee of Rs. 50, which applicants must pay while submitting their applications. An additional Rs. 100 will be collected by postal staff at the time of delivery.

There is no separate advance payment required for opting for doorstep delivery. Applicants can pay the postal charge directly to the delivery personnel when the certificate reaches their address.

The arrangement is expected to make the process more convenient, particularly for senior citizens, people living far from Corporation offices and those who find it difficult to make multiple visits.

Nearly 10,000 people visit MCC every month

MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha said nearly 10,000 people visit the Corporation’s Main Office every month to obtain birth and death certificates.

Currently, certificates relating to events registered within the last two years can be obtained from the respective Zonal Offices. Applications involving older records must be processed at the MCC Main Office.

Savitha also explained that certificates cannot be issued on the same day as the application, as the process takes at least 10 days. With the new postal arrangement, applicants will be able to avoid another trip to collect their documents once the certificates are prepared.

Online application facility also available

Residents who wish to apply without visiting an MCC office can also use the online application option. They can obtain an Indian Postal Order (IPO), download the application form from the Corporation’s website and submit the application online.

The doorstep delivery initiative is expected to simplify access to important civic documents and reduce the number of people visiting Corporation offices for certificate collection.

With the service scheduled to begin on November 1, Mysuru residents will have an additional option to receive birth and death certificates without making a second visit to the MCC.
