Mysuru: Mysuru Zilla Panchayat has taken a bold step and opened an exclusive toilet for the third sex which is claimed to be the first in the country.
On the day of World Toilet Day, Mysuru city which is known as cleanest city in India has come up with a separate toilet for the transgenders on Thursday November 19. Mysuru is also the first city to come up with this facility in the state.
The exclusive toilet for the transgenders was inaugurated by a transgender along with District Panchayath president Pushpa Amarnath.
Pushpa Amarnath speaking on the occasion said that the facility has been provided after transgenders demanded for a separate toilet in public places.
In what is claimed to be a first for the country, the city bus-stand in Mysuru now has a separate toilet for transgenders. The KSRTC set it up after a plea by the transgender community, who said they felt “unwelcome” in the ones meant for men and women.
The centre is still mulling over introducing separate toilets for transgenders (TG) at public places.
