Mysuru: The city is undergoing extensive preparations ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s visit on August 1, with civic authorities accelerating road improvement works, beautification projects and security arrangements for the high-profile event. Roads along the Prime Minister’s convoy route have been resurfaced, public spaces are being spruced up and security has been significantly strengthened as Mysuru gets ready to host the Prime Minister on Saturday.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive in the city on Saturday afternoon to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) on N.S. Road, a memorial established by the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru, to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to the city.

PM to inaugurate Viveka Smaraka

The highlight of the Prime Minister’s visit will be the inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, also known as Viveka Smaraka, which has been developed by the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama.

The memorial has been established at Niranjan Mutt, popularly known as the Old Anathalaya, where Swami Vivekananda stayed during his historic visit to Mysuru before embarking on his journey to represent India at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.

The project has been conceived as a centre dedicated to preserving and promoting the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, with a focus on youth empowerment, spirituality, culture and national development.

The inauguration is expected to be attended by spiritual leaders, dignitaries, public representatives and a large gathering of devotees.

City receives facelift ahead of visit

In preparation for the Prime Minister’s arrival, civic authorities have undertaken several infrastructure and beautification works across the city, particularly along the designated convoy route.

Roads that will be used by the Prime Minister’s convoy have been resurfaced with a fresh layer of asphalt to ensure smooth movement.

Public spaces surrounding the venue have also been cleaned and upgraded. Among the visible improvements is the repainting of the compound walls of Maharani’s College, located opposite the Viveka Smaraka, to enhance the appearance of the area.

Officials have also carried out routine maintenance, road cleaning and landscaping works to present the city in its best condition for the high-profile visit.

Security stepped up across Mysuru

Security arrangements have been intensified with multiple agencies coordinating to ensure the Prime Minister’s visit passes off without any untoward incidents.

The Indian Air Force conducted helicopter landing trials at the Oval Grounds on Thursday under tight security as part of preparations for the VVIP movement.

Police and security personnel have erected barricades along the route connecting the Viveka Smaraka and the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, where Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to visit after inaugurating the memorial.

Security personnel have been deployed at strategic locations, while surveillance and access control measures have been strengthened around the event venues.

Traffic restrictions and security checks are also expected to be enforced to facilitate the smooth movement of the Prime Minister’s convoy and ensure public safety.

Visit to Ramakrishna Ashrama

Following the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will visit the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama in Mysuru.

The Ashrama has played a significant role in promoting the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, besides undertaking educational, cultural and social service activities.

The Prime Minister’s visit to the Ashrama is expected to include interactions with monks and a tour of the institution’s facilities before proceeding to the public event.

Public address scheduled

After completing the inauguration and Ashrama visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address a public gathering at around 4.25 pm on Saturday.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the programme, prompting authorities to make elaborate arrangements for crowd management, security and traffic regulation.

Officials have urged members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow traffic advisories issued for the duration of the Prime Minister’s visit.

Administration finalises preparations

With only hours remaining before the Prime Minister’s arrival, government departments, civic agencies and security forces are working in coordination to complete the remaining preparations.

The combination of infrastructure upgrades, beautification efforts and heightened security reflects the significance of the visit for Mysuru, which will host one of the Prime Minister’s key public programmes in Karnataka.
