Sikar: Police took Bittu Kumar, arrested in connection with the firing at a Tanishq showroom in Sikar, to the crime scene on Thursday and questioned him about the sequence of events. The accused had earlier allegedly attempted to snatch a weapon from a police officer and escape custody, during which he was shot in the leg.
Tanishq showroom targeted in July
According to police, six men arrived at the Tanishq showroom on Silver Jubilee Road on three motorcycles with fake number plates at around 11.40 am on July 26.
The accused allegedly fired at the showroom with the intention of carrying out a robbery. However, after showroom staff activated the siren, the miscreants fled from the spot.
Police have arrested Bittu Kumar alias Ajit Anand, 28, along with Rahul and Sanjeev in connection with the case. Five other accused are still absconding.
Accused injured while trying to escape
Bittu was arrested on August 8. During his transportation in Raghunathgarh, he reportedly stopped the police vehicle on the pretext of using the toilet before allegedly snatching a weapon from a police officer and attempting to flee.
Inspector Sunil Jangid subsequently shot Bittu in the leg with his service revolver. He was treated at SK Hospital in Sikar for about a week.
After being discharged on Wednesday, Bittu was taken into police custody. Rahul and Sanjeev have already been sent to jail.
Police probe alleged Mysuru gold heist
Police are also investigating Bittu’s alleged criminal record. According to the information provided by police, he is accused of being involved in a gold heist worth around Rs 10 crore at a showroom in Mysuru on December 28, 2025.
Police have described Bittu as the alleged mastermind of that incident and said 12 cases are registered against him. He is also accused of two murders in Bihar.
Five accused remain on the run
After being produced in court on Thursday for police remand, Bittu was taken to the Tanishq showroom crime scene for verification. Police said he narrated the sequence of events before being taken back to the station for further interrogation.
Investigators are questioning him about the five absconding accused and their alleged roles in the Sikar incident.
Police also suspect that Bittu is associated with the Bittu Sardar gang, which has allegedly carried out robbery and dacoity cases in different parts of India using vehicles with fake registration numbers and fake identities.
