Mysuru: The Mysuru Hotel Owners Association (MHOA) has welcomed the Karnataka government’s decision to allow hoteliers to directly purchase commercial LPG cylinders from authorised dealers instead of sub-dealers, calling it a step towards greater transparency and accountability.
Hoteliers in Mysuru believe the move will simplify procurement processes and help streamline operations, particularly at a time when the hospitality sector is facing rising input costs.
Direct purchase to improve accountability
MHOA president C Narayana Gowda urged hotel owners to take full advantage of the revised system. He noted that purchasing LPG directly from dealers would reduce dependency on intermediaries and ensure better price regulation and supply consistency.
He also advised members to enrol with authorised dealers by following the prescribed procedures, including payment of the required deposit.
Documentation and registration process
As part of the new system, hoteliers are required to submit detailed information about their establishments. This includes:
- Name and address of the hotel
- Contact person and designation
- Phone number and email ID
- GST or PAN details, as applicable
Additionally, hotel owners must provide their consumer ID, the distributor’s name, and details of LPG requirements, including the quantity needed and the amount already procured between April 2025 and February 2026.
Declaration of end use mandatory
A key requirement under the revised policy is the submission of a ‘Declaration of End Use’. Gowda emphasised that hoteliers must clearly specify the purpose of LPG usage, such as cooking, food preparation, catering, or institutional use.
They are also required to confirm that:
- The LPG will not be diverted for unauthorised purposes
- Safety norms will be strictly followed
- Proper usage records will be maintained
- They have applied for a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection with the City Gas Distribution (CGD) entity
This measure is aimed at ensuring compliance and preventing misuse of subsidised or commercial gas supplies.
Relief amid LPG challenges
The development comes at a time when hotels in the Mysuru region have been grappling with LPG-related challenges, including supply disruptions and rising costs. Industry representatives believe that direct access to dealers will help mitigate some of these issues and improve operational stability.
By eliminating middle layers in the supply chain, the policy is expected to bring more clarity in pricing and reduce delays in procurement.
Conclusion
The Karnataka government’s decision to allow direct LPG purchases marks a significant reform for the hospitality sector. With improved transparency, better supply management, and stricter compliance measures, the move is likely to support hotel businesses in Mysuru while ensuring responsible usage of fuel resources.
