Mysuru: A two-day voter awareness and door-to-door verification drive was launched across Mysuru district on Friday to help citizens verify their names in the electoral roll, correct errors, raise objections and prevent wrongful deletion of entries.
The drive, being held on September 19 and 20, is part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list and is being conducted under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative.
Drive launched at Chamundi Hills
Zilla Panchayat CEO S Ukesh Kumar inaugurated the awareness campaign at Chamundi Hills and released posters related to the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Ukesh Kumar urged citizens to make use of the two-day drive and check their details in the voters’ list. He called upon voters to identify any errors and take steps to have them corrected.
The campaign is aimed at ensuring that eligible voters remain on the electoral roll while providing an opportunity to address discrepancies in names, addresses and other details.
BLOs to assist voters at polling booths
Mysuru Tahsildar Mahesh Kumar asked voters to visit their respective polling booths during the campaign and verify their names and details in the electoral roll.
Booth-level officers (BLOs) have been instructed to remain at polling booths throughout the day on both September 19 and 20.
The BLOs will assist citizens in checking their entries in the draft electoral roll and submitting the required forms wherever changes or additions are necessary.
Officials said voters can approach BLOs for clarification and assistance regarding their entries and the procedures for making corrections.
Forms available for registration and corrections
Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 will be made available at the polling booths during the drive.
Form 6 can be used by eligible citizens seeking registration as voters, while Form 6A is meant for registration of overseas Indian voters.
Form 7 is used for raising objections to entries and seeking deletion, while Form 8 is used for correction or shifting of entries in the electoral roll.
Officials have appealed to citizens to use the appropriate forms after verifying their details.
New voters can register
Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer C Krishna said eligible new voters can also register their names during the two-day campaign.
He said BLOs would be available at their respective polling booths on both days to guide citizens through the registration and verification process.
The door-to-door component of the campaign is also intended to improve awareness among households and encourage eligible citizens to check their electoral details rather than wait until the revision process is completed.
Appeal to citizens
The district administration has urged voters to participate in the exercise and ensure that their electoral roll details are accurate.
Officials said the verification process provides an opportunity for voters to identify errors, submit corrections, raise objections where required and seek registration if they are eligible but have not yet been included in the voters’ list.
ZP CEO Bheemappa K Lali, CDPO Venkatappa and other officials were present during the launch.
The two-day exercise is expected to provide voters across the district with direct assistance from election officials as the SIR process continues.
