Mysuru: District Congress president B J Vijaykumar and several other Congress leaders were arrested by the police for obstructing the police personnel during the by-poll duty on Sunday, December 8.

The police have alleged that not only Vijaykumar, but even MLA Anil Chikkamadu and his supporters had also violated Section 144 by forming groups at the counting centre. When the police ordered the groups to disperse,  verbal spat broke out. The Congress party workers and local leaders had protested against the police at Hosamaranahalli and demanded an apology from them.

After the incident, PSI Jayaprakash of Bilikere Police Station filed a complaint against the protestors.

According to the complaint, Vijaykumar has been held as Accused number 1, Anil Chikkamadu as Accused number 2 and several other names have also been mentioned.

It can be recalled that, last year on December 5, the Congress leaders had staged protest against the police personnel in a similar incident at Hosamaranahalli.
