Mysuru: In all, Rs. 1,300 Crore crop loans have been given in both Mysuru and Chamarajanagar Districts, while crop loans worth Rs. 160 Crore have been disbursed in K. R. Nagara and Saligrama Taluks, said Apex Bank Vice-President G. D. Harish Gowda.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a new Agricultural Credit Co-operative Building at Chibukahalli Village in Chunchanakatte Hobli of Saligrama Taluk at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh, he said that the DCC Bank belongs to farmers and loans have been disbursed to 1 lakh farmer families in the District. So far, Rs. 81 Crore has been given as crop loans in the two taluks with the amount reaching Rs. 160 Crore during our tenure. In all, Rs 2.5 Crore as funds have been given to the buildings of various cooperative societies in the District.

Women Self-help Groups are taking loans from private parties at an interest rate of 26 per cent and it would be better if they take loans from our co-operative societies at an interest rate of 12 per cent. The rate of interest will be further reduced in the coming days. He also said that the amount of funds allocated by the Government for agricultural loans is very low and a request has been made to the Cooperation Minister in this regard.
