Mysuru: After his remark on Hijab raised a controversy, and evoked strong resentment among people, the Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah on Saturday March 26 denied speaking anything against Swamijis.
Siddaramaiah who came down heavily on the media for creating controversy by misconstruing his remarks, he said “You only ask questions and then create a controversy. I haven’t spoken anything that disrespects Swamijis.”
”I haven’t even used Hijab word. Don’t you know the difference between Hijab and Dupatta? Both are different. I have only mentioned about the types of dresses worn in public. However, you have linked it to something else and created a controversy. I have highest regard for Swamijis and also mathas,” clarified Siddaramaiah.
However, Siddaramaiah said that he has only given suggestions to allow students to write exams with a dupatta on the head. “I am not against uniform but wearing of same colour dupatta should be allowed. What’s wrong in that? I have given the suggestion and it is left to the Government to either accept or reject it,” he added.
Siddu’s son Dr. Yatindra Siddaramaiah also came in support of his father saying that his father did not defame swamijis.
Speaking to mediapersons here Yatindra said his father just compared th cloth on head with pontiffs who are using it.
