Mysuru: Yoga competition, cycling marks Dasara

Mysuru: District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar and Mysuru – Kodagu MP Pratap Simha inaugurated State Level Yoga Competition organised to mark Dasara Festival at P. Kalinga Rao Hall at the Exhibition Ground premises here on Thursday September 29.

Addressing the gathering, MP Pratap Simha said that the District In-charge Minister is very keen and actively participating in grand Dasara as the festival stalled since last two years owing to Covid. The Cultural City is native of Yoga in the country and we have to strengthen Yoga by giving more emphasis to Yoga in Mysuru in the coming days. Yoga is helpful for a healthy life and thus he called upon parents to show more interest in teaching Yoga to their children.

Yoga Competition was organised for boys, girls, men and women in four categories from 12 years to 65 years. More than 1000 enthusiasts including special-abled people participated.

Minister S. T. Somashekhar flagged off the State level Dasara Games organised as part of Dasara celebrations by lighting a torch.

Speaking after inaugurating the Minister offered prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari Devi and lit the sports torch. Olympic Medalist wrestler Sakshi Mallik and Sports Minister Narayana Gowda inaugurated the Dasara Sports Tournament in which more than 4500 sportspersons
participated from various parts of the State. Minister said that suitable arrangements have been made for the athletes.

The Minister also flagged off cycle rally organised to mark Dasara festival. The “Traditional Cycle Ride (Trin-Trin)” programme organised by the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage in front of the town. Youth, seniors and public have participated in this programme in large numbers. He said that appropriate arrangements have been made for the cycle ride. More than 200 school and college students from Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu, Bengaluru and other Districts participated.

MLA L. Nagendra and officials of the Department of Archaeology, Museum and Heritage were present in the programme.
