10-year jail-term for rapist in Mysuru

Mysuru: The 7th Additional District and Sessions Court on Saturday March 5 sentenced 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a rapist.

According to the prosecution, Ravi Kumar (30), a native of Sathi Village in KR Nagar Taluk befriended a woman in the same village, promising her marriage. However, the accused raped her multiple times under the guise of marriage, despite the fact that he did not marry her. He even threatened to kill her.

Following a complaint by the victim, K R Nagar Police registered a case and submitted a chargesheet against the accused.

The charges of raping and the false promise of marriage have been proved with witnesses, said Judge Yeshvanth Kumar who heard the case. For rape, the court sentenced the defendant to ten years in jail and a fine of Rs. 10,000. The court also imposed a one-year jail term and Rs. 5,000 fine for threatening the victim’s life. Public Prosecutor K. Nagaraja spoke on behalf of the prosecution.
