Dasara jumbo pack bid farewell with heavy heart

Mysuru: After successful 411th Nadahabba, Mysuru Dasara, Abhimanyu and his team of elephants bid adieu to Palace City Mysuru on Sunday October 17.

Before bidding adieu Mysuru Palace Board authorities conducted traditional puja to the pachyderms, besides feeding them with sugarcane and fruits. Howdah elephant Abhimanyu and Gopalaswamy will return to Mathigodu camp, while Ashwathama will be taken to Dodda Harave camp, followed by Vikrama, Dhananjaya and Cauvery elephants to Dubare camp and Chaitra and Lakshmi elephants to Bandipur forest camp. Palace Board also gifted Rs. 10,000 to each of mahouts, kavadis and elephant caretakers.

A total of eight elephants participated in the Dasara festival. For over a month, after their arrival to Palace on September 13, the elephants along with their mahouts and kavadis camped till Jamboo Savari on October 15. Jamboo Savari was the grand finale of Dasara (Navaratri festivities) that began on October 7 at Chamundi Hills.
